If you’re a uniformed officer, should you be able to participate in a Pride event? If you spent years putting on events for the LGBTQ community, all for you to be told that if you are a uniformed officer, that you can not participate in the event. Should you as a police officer, be told what you can and can’t do? If you are apart of the LGBTQ community, should you be told to hide it away because of your job? If you answered no to all of these questions, then you my friend, are reading the right blog post.
For almost 20 years, the LGBTQ community has been putting on an event called “Blockorama.” Police officers have been able to attend and participate what is going on in the community, but now it changed and they are not allowed to participate. Could you imagine being told that something you were once able to be freely apart of, is something you can no longer attend?
Everyday you hear or see on social media about how police officers are brutal and racist towards one part of a community, meaning the side of the community that is poor. No one ever posts videos about cops doing any good and if they do, it is a one second recognition. Whereas if you see something negative about police officers, the issue doesn’t ever go away. The comments that are read about officers are very sickening to read in my opinion. They are trying to do their jobs and save OUR lives by putting THEIR lives at risk everyday. Every 63 hours on average, one police officer is killed. One police officer that doesn’t get to say goodbye. One less police officer to give the world something to have bias about.
I as a high school student will never understand this world and why it is the way it is. I will never understand why this world has more negativity towards each other than positivity. But maybe, just maybe, there’s a good reason behind it.
